Medical Health

Medical health includes caring for your overall well-being by scheduling regular check-ups with a primary care physician. Making medical health a priority will help you develop habits that reduce your risk of illness.

Student Health Services provides many health services—free of charge—to those who have UC SHIP. Those without UC SHIP can still be seen, but they might be charged a small fee.

Physical Health

Physical health means taking care of your body by exercising regularly. Focusing on your physical health helps manage your weight and stress, which contributes to your overall health. UCSD offers plenty of opportunities to stay active.

Mental Health

Mental health encompasses your mental, behavioral, and social health. Positive mental health includes managing your stress by incorporating self-care into your mundane routines, as well as creating positive relationships with others.

The Zone

Environmental Health

Environmental health means engaging in sustainable behaviors that care for the world around us. Our actions have consequences that affect the world around us, so if we don’t care for the Earth, we will be exposed to hazardous toxins that harm our health.

Promoting environmental health includes reducing waste by utilizing the refillable water bottle stations around campus, or by using your U-Pass/ECO Pass to access public transit and reduce carbon emissions.

Nutritional Health

Nutritional health means eating a well-balanced diet that provides your body with sufficient nourishment, so that you can keep up with daily activities. The quality of your diet can affect your mental, physical and medical health, and it can have an impact on the environment.

Registered HDH Dieticians and the Hungry for Healthy program at The Zone are some of the UCSD resources that will help you understand what it means to practice nutritional health.

Safety Health

Safety health means being prepared for emergency situations. This includes knowing how to react and where to seek assistance when an unexpected situation arises. It is important to understand safety health practices and strategies, so that you can maintain your overall well-being during a crisis.
